4 DIY Jobs You Can Do To Kickstart The New Year

With the new year comes new beginnings, so it’s no wonder that January is often seen as a time for getting the house spruced up and ready for the year ahead. If you’re struggling to think of anything that might need doing, this week on the blog here at Browns we’ve taken the liberty of listing a couple of easy jobs you can do to kick off with – you might be surprised at how much difference it can make!

Clear Out Your Garden

The winter isn’t the best time for your garden. All those dead leaves and plants can easily make it look messy and underwhelming. Grab yourself a rake and tackle the worst of it – obviously you won’t have it looking pristine, but you could well be saving yourself quite a bit of work later on down the line.

It’s worth noting that in the high winds and stormy weather, it might be a good idea to check over your trees for any rickety or fragile branches – or even some that might be hanging right off the trunk. If you spot any, they’re probably ripe for pruning. After all, you don’t want to risk them coming flying off during a storm, as a tree branch through the living room window can really put the dampeners on a nice family dinner. (We usually find that one of our aluminium tripod ladders is well up to the job!)

Get Yourself Some More Storage Space

It’s a familiar feeling after Christmas to find yourself with more stuff than you might have room for. In that case, shelves are the perfect solution. Whether you want to display some new crockery or you just want to give yourself a bit more breathing room, it might be worth sizing up a couple of rooms to see which ones could benefit from a good bit of shelving.
