Case Study: How we helped Science in Sport

Science in Sport is a passionate sports nutrition brand based in Lancashire. When they identified a problem with accessing a mezzanine floor in their building, which they were using for storage, they contacted Browns Ladders for help.

When our specialist advisor visited Science in Sport, we found they were using an unsecured leaning ladder to climb up onto the mezzanine floor. It was clear that there was a need for a sturdier and more reliable means of accessing the floor, especially since employees were often carrying objects whilst climbing up and down the ladder, so we set about finding a solution.

We inspected the area carefully and noted that the ladder was constantly in use, so we recommended fixed access stairs be fitted. This would provide a much safer and more secure means of access and would stand up to frequent use. We took lots of measurements and photographs to allow us to get quotes from fabricators and we had a bespoke product designed to meet Science in Sport’s specific requirements.

The result we provided was both cost-effective and custom-made for the job, meeting all regulations.

The stairs were made from a version of a mobile steel warehouse step, but with base plates instead of wheels. It also had wall mounting plates meaning it could be tied into the wall to make it absolutely solid when staff climb up and down.

Science in Sport were delighted with the quoted price and went ahead and ordered the item. Due to the simplicity and usability of the design, they opted to bolt the item into position themselves when it arrived.

As part of our service, we conducted a final site visit and inspection to make sure the installation went ahead smoothly and that the item was suitable.
